Yesterday, Disney confirmed that Star Wars character stand alone films will in fact be made, and there was some speculation that the first one would be Yoda-centric. However, sources close to Disney stated today that they are focusing on two of our other favorite characters, Han Solo and Boba Fett, and we don’t have a bad feeling about this.

EW reports that “sources close to the project” state that two Star Wars stand alone films (in addition to Episodes VII, VIII, and IX) are currently in the works, and they’ll be focused on Boba Fett and Han Solo. This news hasn’t been officially confirmed by Disney (both LucasFilm and Disney declined to comment on this), so for now this is just a rumor with a good source. Yesterday there was also speculation on a Yoda-centric film, so we’ll have to wait and see what Disney officially announces.

A Solo-centric film would presumably take place in the time span between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Solo didn’t appear at all in the prequel trilogy, so there is a ton of back story that could be written on the character. Harrison Ford was 35 when he appeared in A New Hope, so an actor younger than that would have to be cast.

A Boba Fett-centric film would likely take place sometime within the time span of the original trilogy, likely sometime between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Maybe we’ll see the entire back story on how Darth Vader hired him as a bounty hunter? Finding an actor most likely wouldn’t be difficult – in Episodes V and VI, Boba Fett was wearing a mask the entire time (Boba Fett was only in the 1997 re-mastered version of A New Hope, he wasn’t in the original 1977 film). In the prequels, we learn that he’s a clone of Jango Fett, who was played by Temuera Morrison. There’s potential that if Boba Fett is portrayed without a mask, Morrison could still get by (in terms of age-appropriateness) playing the part.

If Han Solo and Boba Fett films go through, we’re also likely to see a few familiar characters – presumably Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and probably the Millennium Falcon and Jabba the Hut.

Who do you think should be cast as the a young Han Solo and Boba Fett in the first Star Wars stand alone films? Are you happy with these potential character films? Leave us your thoughts below!
