The director of the first two Harry Potter movies says he’s interested in directing new movies that take place after the events of Deathly Hallows.

Are more Harry Potter movies in the pipeline? Speaking to EW while on the Pixels press circuit this weekend, Columbus said that he’s very curious about what went on between Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the years after The Boy Who Lived defeated Voldemort within Hogwarts’ Great Hall.

“I would love to go back and do another one,” said Columbus. “Not Fantastic Beasts as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I’m just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There’s 18 years there of great Harry Potter stories.”

The director of Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, arguably two of the most whimsical films in the Harry Potter series, noted that he hasn’t brought the idea up to J.K. Rowling. “I don’t have the courage to actually mention that to her because I have such respect for her,” said Columbus. “She should do what she wants to do, but I really would love to know what’s in her head about those missing years.”

Maybe Columbus should ask her on Twitter?

Since publishing Deathly Hallows, Rowling has offered a few details about what happened in those years between the Harry/Voldemort battle and the “19 Years Later” epilogue. Harry and Ron became aurors while Hermione went “pretty high up” in the Ministry of Magic’s Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

With roles like those in the Ministry, we’re certain that the Harry Potter author could come up with compelling stories for more books or movies (Harry Potter 8, Harry Potter 8, Harry Potter 8).

It’s almost like she gave the characters these roles in order to leave the door open for future books!

Meanwhile, Eddie Redmayne will star as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them beginning next November.
