In honor of today’s new Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 15th anniversary cover, let’s look back at the previous covers for the first book in J.K. Rowling’s series.

The very first cover debuted in the United Kingdom

The book in England is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The cover was illustrated by Thomas Taylor.

Next came the United States’ by Mary GrandPre

Did you know there’ve been three Sorcerer’s Stone covers in the United States?

There was of course the original cover…

Then there was the “School Market Edition,” which is pretty rare to find today.

Next Scholastic released a “Special Anniversary Edition” to mark the book’s tenth birthday. At the time they had said they would release 10-year covers for each book, but that plan never panned out.

Today, Scholastic unveiled the 15-year cover which, unlike the three covers above, is not illustrated by Mary GrandPre.

The UK has seen two additional covers since their original

There was this new version of the paperback…

And this adult version, so adults could read the book in public and not feel lame for holding a “children’s book”…

Then there were all these other great international covers!

The book has been translated into nearly seventy different languages. Here are various other Harry Potter books with their international counterparts.

From left to right are the Danish, Dutch, French, and Swedish versions of each book in the series.
