United States Harry Potter publisher Scholastic has changed its mind about offering bonus content with the upcoming Harry Potter paperbacks re-release featuring new covers by illustrator Kazu Kibuishi.
“When it comes to the Harry Potter series, we always want to deliver for the fans,” Scholastic told Hypable this morning. “Since we determined that our plan fell short of that expectation, we will not be offering bonus content.”
When the books went up for pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, each of the seven books’ product descriptions said that “bonus material” would be included “in the back.” After noticing this we reached out to Scholastic to ask what the bonus content would be, and the company said editor Arthur Levine had not yet made that determination.
Fans were mixed about the news of extra material being included with the books. Some called it an attempt to get existing fans to buy the books a second time, while others welcomed the idea of new (or old?) material being included that would expand upon the world of Harry Potter.
Announced last month, the re-release of the Harry Potter paperbacks is the first time the entire series has undergone a cover revamp. The books will debut on August 27. Only the cover for Sorcerer’s Stone has been unveiled so far. We can’t wait to see the rest of ’em (including the complete box set, which has special art of its own).
