The final season of New Girl premieres April 10! Get ready with these spoiler-free teases from “About Three Years Later.”

Older but not wiser:

The show may start three years later, but the gang feels just the same. Nick, Jess, Winston, Schmidt, Cece, and Aly are all at different points in their lives than when we last saw them, but the characters are still the same ones fans know and love.

They’re a bit more settled, have changes in their careers, and have kids but they’re still trying to figure things out!

Grown up Nick:

Nick might have some of the biggest developments from what I’ve seen so far. He spends the entire season premiere in a suit after having spent the summer on a European book tour with Jess.

He’s an established author now and seems a lot more grown up from when fans last saw him. However, that doesn’t mean he’s a completely different person. He spends most of the episode battling with Schmidt about facial hair and also starts to freak out over his future with Jess.

Winston’s new storyline:

One of my biggest complaints about New Girl over the years has been that Winston often felt like an afterthought when it came to storylines. Winston is so goofy that he kind of became a one-note character at times.

It was always obvious to me that he had so much more potential. And I’m pleased to say that it seems like Aly and his pregnancy storyline has given him some great developments. Though still pretty goofy, it’s a lot of fun to see Winston in the premiere and how he deals with Aly’s pregnancy woes.

Stay at home dad:

Probably one of my favorite aspects of the new season is seeing Schmidt as a stay at home dad. Not only does this go against gender stereotyping, but Schmidt is just as obsessive about being a good dad as he was in his former career.

It’s a fun development to see him growing into parenthood but not really change his personality. The writers didn’t try to change him, they just changed the situation that he was in. And seeing his and Cece’s interactions with their daughter Ruth is just adorable.
