At a teacher’s conference Jess got paired up with her crush from work, Ryan. Read our recap to find out what happened on New Girl season 4, episode 8, “Teachers.”
Coach has a new assignment at the school — teaching Health Ed. — and he’s not happy about it. Especially since it means he has to go to a teacher’s conference with Jess when the rest of the room mates are having a guy’s night.
Guy’s night starts off with Nick and Winston dueling on the kitchen table while Schmidt makes sangria. They move the party into Jess’ room to spy on the yoga studio next door, which is when Schmidt accidentally spills sangria on Jess’ bed and tries to clean it. Unfortunately, Schmidt doesn’t know how to do laundry.
He recalls the sad story of how his mother did his laundry growing up. Then in college he was too embarrassed to wash his large clothes in front of the girls in the dorm. Trying to make him feel better, Winston says he doesn’t know how to use a ruler.
Nick shouts that it’s time to teach. Guy’s night turns into learning night as Winston learns how to measure with a ruler and Schmidt learns how to do laundry. As Winston and Schmidt talk about how Nick can do everything, he confesses that he never learned how to love. So naturally, they make a fort and start singing.
Jess’ plan to stay away from Ryan at the conference is shot when she finds out that he’s in the room next door. So she enlists Coach to be her buffer from Ryan. Things get awkward when Coach gets called on by education guru Brenda Brown and he tells her he’s a teacher because his roommate made him. Feeling the pressure, Coach leaves for the bar.
This forces Jess to partner up with Ryan and the first exercise involves holding hands! The next exercise has them finding out how compatible they are. And they rule at the trust exercise. Afterwards, Jess has to call Cece for a reminder of why she can’t be with Ryan, which she wrote in a letter before leaving and stuck in Cece’s purse.
After getting more pressure at the bar from other teachers, Coach freaks out and climbs on top of the pool shed. Jess tries to talk him down without success. When Coach falls into the pool, Ryan is there to jump in and save him.
Jess and Ryan bring Coach up to the hotel room and get cozy with some drinks from the mini bar, where she admits that she has a crush on him. But before things can go any further Coach wakes up asking for a bucket.
The next morning, Coach is feeling much better about teaching and is way less drunk. Ryan approaches Jess about the night before. She asks him to forget what she said the night before, but then lunges at him for a kiss after he admits that he can’t stop thinking about her.
