Last night on New Girl season 4, episode 16, Jess traveled home for her dad’s wedding. Find out what happened with our recap!
The guys shudder when Jess leaves the most awkward voicemail ever to Ryan whom she hasn’t spoken to in a week. Even Nick is worried about Jess who has been keeping odd hours waiting for him to call. But Jess is adamant that everything is fine.
Cece gets mad at Winston when he gives her “the look.” She’s still in denial about having feelings for Schmidt. She even threatens Ferguson! Who Winston says has been missing for weeks.
Everyone is at dinner to celebrate the wedding, and Jess can’t concentrate. She’s waiting for Ryan to call and is very excited for the tour she has planned. Cece sees her high school crush Jake and Schmidt isn’t happy about it but agrees to help her.
Jess gets a call from Ryan saying he’s not coming and she’s clearly crushed. To make her feel better, Nick says they all want to go on the tour she had planned for him.
To make sure that Jess enjoys the day, Nick takes her cell phone. The downside to the tour is that it’s raining and the guys have to run because the bike taxi only fits two people. Coach becomes obsessed with fitting in with the rest of the Portland locals.
The day works and Jess forgot all about Ryan. Until they get to her mom’s house and everything is decked out for Ryan. Joan starts crying, which makes Jess cry. Nick can’t take it anymore and says that Ryan made a dick move by cancelling.
Even though she’s crying in her room, Jess tells Nick that she still doesn’t think that the relationship is doomed. But Nick says the only thing that matters is that the guy is there for you when you need him. It only seems to make Jess more upset.
At the wedding Jess forgot her dad’s rings. So Nick and Coach jump on a tandem bike to go get them. Unfortunately, when they get there Jess’ mom is on acid. To stall the wedding, Jess sings Ave Maria to the guests.
Schmidt takes a different route and calls the fire department, making sure that Jake shows up. When Jake says he wants to take Cece out, she admits that she’s in love with someone else.
Nick and Coach finally show up with the rings, and Jess goes to find her Dad. But he’s busy dancing with Ashley — not a care in the world. This makes Jess realize that Nick was right about everything. She decides to break up with Ryan, and ends the night with her friends at crush pond. They all take rocks and throw it into the pond, thinking the name of their crush and hoping they will love them back. Winston takes the chance to tease Cece.
