It’s the night of Winston’s graduation from the police academy and his friends couldn’t be more nervous on New Girl season 4, episode 12, “Shark.” Read our recap here!

Winston gets his new uniform in time for graduation and the roommates are ready to celebrate. Too bad they can’t hear each other over the night construction outside their building. Schmidt and Jess are determined to end it.

Meanwhile, Nick and Coach are worried that Winston is too vulnerable to be a cop. They think he might get harmed on the job but feel better when they hear his partner is supposed to be a badass.

At Winston’s graduation ceremony, Jess and Schmidt meet Councilwoman Fawn Moscato. Schmidt is smitten. Less impressed are Coach and Nick when they meet Winston’s partner Aly. Because she’s so little, they think she can’t possibly protect Winston.

To try to get Councilwoman Moscato into helping them stop the night construction, Schmidt takes her out on a date, but he ends up being out-seduced and tricked. Moscato turns him to her side to talk Jess out of her campaign.

But Jess isn’t one to step aside. She gathers neighbors to help make phone calls for support. At the same time, Schmidt is accompanying Moscato to a ribbon cutting ceremony. He warns her about Jess’ plan and sets him up to oppose her at the council meeting.

Naturally, Jess and Ryan present a wonderful argument over why the night construction should end. Cece makes a comment to Schmidt about his cuffs being uneven. It sets Schmidt off and he can’t concentrate on his own speech. This forces Moscato to switch to the day schedule.

Despite being thrown under the bus by Moscato, Schmidt still wants her. Her ability to hold one over on him gets under his skin. Moscato says that she will call when she needs him.

Making matters worse for Winston, Coach and Nick decide to pay Aly a visit at the police station. They want to make sure he’s taken care of. But all they do is upset her and make it look like Winston has a problem with her.

The first day on the job, Aly confronts Winston about her run-in with Coach and Nick. Winston considers himself lucky to have her as his training officer. Although he promises she will never have to see them again, Nick and Coach are driving right behind them. Aly gets her chance to prove just how strong she is and kicks their butts.

Even though Nick and Coach think that Aly is arresting them, she brings them to a support group. They get to let all their emotions out and deal with their worries for Winston. Aly even compliments Winston on his first day well done.
