Last night, New Girl season 4, episode 11, “LaXmas,” reminded us how truly awful the holidays can be.

It’s not the holiday season on New Girl unless something is going awfully wrong for the friends. This year, they were all heading to different destinations, but were planning on spending their last few hours together going to the airport.

What they weren’t expecting was to walk into chaos at LAX where all the flights were delayed. Everyone was scrambling for new tickets and it was unclear what that meant for the friends. Jess spent the rest of the episode trying to get everyone tickets to go home. Only to start doubting her own trip to England to meet Ryan’s family.

When Jess’ students were putting on the darkest Christmas play in existence

We all know Coach crushed his niece by deciding to go on vacation instead of going home

When Barry the flight attendant refused to have any Christmas cheer

That time Santa got very inappropriate with Jess

Especially when Santa stole Jess’ presents

That time Barry crushed all of our holiday dreams

But there were moments that warmed our cold hearts

Of course, it was Nick and Jess’ connection that saved the episode. Even though Jess was crying and freaked out about England, Nick was there for her. He left behind his first class tickets, which he never had before, to make sure she was all right.

After rounding up the rest of the gang, he found her outside and had everyone backing him up that she had to go on her trip. Even though it was a purely friend moment, it had us missing their time together as a couple.

Coach also turned his holiday around by abandoning his vacation to go home and see his niece. It was the perfect “awwwwww,” moment.
