New Girl season 3, episode 9 “Longest Night Ever” just finished airing on Fox. Now you can read our recap and discuss the story line with fellow fans.

Here are the highlights from New Girl season 3, episode 9 “Longest Night Ever”:

• Winston has an epiphany (while showering with Ferguson) that it’s time for him to go out and meet human women. Nick agrees to watch Ferguson for the night while he goes out.
• Schmidt starts eating his feelings when he learns that Coach asked Cece out. Although he gave permission, he’s clearly not okay with it, even though he tells Jess he is. He starts to feel better when Coach admits that he’s nervous about the date.
• Nick tells Jess that when Schmidt says “I’m fine,” things are about to get un-fine. So he tells her to keep him safe and busy while Cece and Coach are on their date.
• When Coach arrives at Cece’s apartment, he starts to act nervous and then tries to make up for it by acting overly cool.
• Winston comes home early and admits that he forgot how to talk to women. When he looks for Ferguson, he realizes that Nick left a window open and he escaped. So now they have to go on a search for Ferguson. While Jess is stuck watching Schmidt.
• After everyone leaves, Schmidt wants to go and tell Coach he changed his mind. But Jess guilts him into staying, saying that Cece needs it because she just started to move on. Her attempt to distract him by singing doesn’t work at all.
• Things get creepy when Schmidt starts loving on the brown leather couch saying it reminds him of Cece. So Jess resorts to taking Schmidt out to meet some women.
• Nick tries to talk some sense in Winston when he calls Ferguson his best friend. They’re interrupted when someone texts Winston saying they found the cat.
• At the Staple Center, Coach is blowing his date with Cece by trying to impress her.
• Jess tries to hook Schmidt up with a woman at the bar. But when she walks away from the pair, he tells her his plan to stop Cece’s date and gets her to help him escape.
• A weird connection is made between Winston and the woman who found Ferguson. They relate over their love of animals and their hopelessness with the opposite sex.
• Instead of paying attention to their date, Coach spends the time texting on his phone. Cece gets fed up and storms out of their date, throwing popcorn on Coach in the process.
• While the bus driver who found Ferguson and Winston flirt over bologna sandwiches, Nick gets thoroughly grossed out. But Winston seems desperate and asks Nick to take Ferguson home so he can spend time with her. Although he’s weirded out by her, Nick agrees.
• To explain things, Coach shows Cece his phone. He had been texting his mom to feel better about being nervous. They laugh about trying to get back into the dating game.
• In order to stop going after Cece, Schmdit tells Jess to run him over with her car. Otherwise, he says, he’ll just keep running away from her. When she taps him with the car, he freaks out and tells her she’s out of control. Things only get worse when a cop pulls up and Jess hits the gas out of surprise – really hitting Schmidt this time.
• The cop doesn’t get it, but when Schmidt explains he asked for Jess to hit him, they get off without any trouble. Schmidt seems to feel better until they drive up to the loft to see Cece and Coach kissing.
• Winston does indeed get some quality time with his lady friend! It’s still weird though!
