Jess got Coach a job at her school while Schmidt hired Nick to represent him as a lawyer on New Girl season 3, episode 19, “Fired Up.” Find out what happened with our recap and discuss with fans.

Here are the highlights from New Girl season 3, episode 19, “Fired Up,”:

Schmidt’s move back into the loft isn’t very smooth as his stuff takes up a bunch of space. Nick comes up with the solution to bring it all to the store he leased for Abby. Schmidt is surprised when a passerby walks into the store and asks about a lamp. His bad luck gets worse when the guy hurts his arm and says he’s going to sue the shit out of Schmidt.

Winston gets overly excited about Schmidt’s legal drama. Schmidt is way less excited, but when Winston suggests Nick becomes his lawyer, he laughs it off. Offended, Nick says he passed his bar and can easily do the job. So Schmidt reluctantly agrees but quickly starts to get nervous when Nick doesn’t want to prep.

Jess gets Coach a job at her school even though he claims to hate kids. But he does seem to enjoy yelling at them. He’s surprised to find that Jess has been taking on extra responsibility on her own (such as mowing the lawn) in order to impress the principle and get a promotion to vice principal. Coach thinks this is silly and starts coaching her to ask what she wants for.

When Jess confronts the principle about the job, he mistakenly thinks she’s hitting on him. But when she explains she wants the vice principal job he gladly hands over the work. Later, when Jess looks over the budget, she’s surprised to find that they need to make cuts. The principal immediately says they need to fire people to make up for the gap. His rule is the last one in is the first one out, so that means Coach is fired.

As Jess breaks the news to Coach, they both cry and the kids get angry at Jess. She gets back to the loft to find that Winston is also very upset with her and won’t even speak with her. Nick is so distracted about being fired by Schmidt that he doesn’t listen to Jess’ problems.

Without consulting Schmidt, Nick and Winston show up to the deposition to represent him. Not surprisingly, Winston fits in better with the other lawyers than Nick. Nick is offended when the other lawyer questions his abilities and tells Schmidt he should take a settlement. But Nick convinces Schmidt that he has a plan.

Even though he’s bummed about being fired, Coach tells Jess he’s still proud of her for getting the vice principal job. When he starts talking about missing the students, they both start crying again. So Jess decides to help him get to the game anyways.

Coach arrives at the game in time to pump the team up. The principle is less than happy with Jess, but she stands her ground and says they can come up with alternatives to firing Coach. When the team starts winning, the principle has a change of heart.

Nick’s plan ends up being brilliant. He falls and gets hurt (even though he’s obviously faking it) and threatens to sue them in return. They walk out satisfied and head to the bar to celebrate. Nick heads back to the loft for some celebrating love and finds Jess passed out in bed surrounded by work. So he adorably crawls in with her.
