Warner Brothers has just released a major new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them featurette, consisting of exciting footage and interviews.

The new Fantastic Beasts preview debuted during a fan event with the movie’s cast, which was streamed live online. Rowling appeared at the end of the event and announced Fantastic Beasts will be FIVE movies! (Previously three!)

“This is new material. There are ways in which we connect to the Potter books that I think people will find surprising,” says J.K. Rowling, as Grindelwald-related headlines flash on the screen.

“You’re learning a part of magical history that’s talked about in the Potter books that you never see. I’m getting a chance to tell that now,” she adds. EXCITING!

Watch the new Fantastic Beasts featurette below, and enjoy all of the new footage (including some throwbacks to the Hogwarts era):

At the 3:24 mark, overtop Rowling discussing Grindelwald, we see what could be a first look at the character. “They’re talking about the first time a wizard rose and threatened world order,” Rowling says over this scene. Grindy… is that you? (We’ve brightened the image below so he’s easier to make out.)

Update: I’ve been told from someone close to production that this is indeed Grindelwald. The scene appears at the very beginning of the movie.

Do you think this is Grindelwald in ‘Fantastic Beasts’?

Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, director David Yates and producer David Heyman were present for the fan event in London, while Colin Farrell and Jon Voight held the fort down in Los Angeles.

Fantastic Beasts “opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident… were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”

Another Fantastic Beasts synopsis recently released by WB also confirmed that Grindelwald will play some sort of role in the movie.

What’s more, recent character posters (hit the link above) revealed a connection with the Deathly Hallows, whose symbol also appears in the new featurette.

The movie opens in theaters November 18! Can’t wait until then? The Harry Potter movies just returned to select IMAX theaters.
