Dragon Ball fans, rejoice! A new series is in the works titled Dragon Ball Super and already has a premiere date in Japan.

The news is notable in that it’s the first new Dragon Ball series on television since Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT — the latter of which concluded in 1997. Dragon Ball Super will follow the events of Z: Resurrection “F” when it premieres in Japan this July.

“The story of the anime is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when the Earth has become peaceful once again,” according to Anime News Network. Said producer Osamu Nozaki, “As I read the plot [of the series] I’ve already received from [Dragon Ball creator] Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear…”

Unfortunately there’s no United States premiere information for Dragon Ball Super at this time, but it should be easy for fans to grab the Japanese version if you can’t wait for it to hit American television.

Whether they began watching with Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball GT, fans have devoured the adventures of Goku and his friends one after the other for decades, even after creator Akira Toriyama proclaimed that Dragon Ball Z would be the last series, as he was running out of ideas for enemies powerful enough for Goku, the strongest Super-Saiyan alive.

Now, a full series and several movies later, Team Dragon Ball hasn’t run out of ideas, and Dragon Ball Super will follow the events of Dragon Ball Z Resurrection “F” and pit Goku against a new enemy that threatens the peaceful world that Goku and his friends have fought so hard to protect over the years.
