Arrow fans may be saying goodbye to their titular hero, but they’ll be able to cheer on the Canaries in an upcoming spinoff series.

Arrow will be wrapping up its season, but the heroes of Star City will live on!

On January 3, the CW released an official synopsis for the upcoming January 21 episode of Arrow, which — according to Deadline — will act as a backdoor pilot for the Arrow-verse’s upcoming spinoff series starring the Canaries of Star City.

The episode will be titled “Green Arrow and the Canaries.” In addition to being the backdoor pilot for the as-yet untitled Arrow spinoff, the episode will likewise serve as the penultimate episode of Arrow’s eighth and final season.

Check out the official synopsis below!

It’s the year 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen has everything she could have ever wanted. However, when Laurel and Dinah suddenly show up in her life again, things take a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended. Laurel and Dinah are tracking a kidnapping victim with direct ties to Mia and they need her help. Knowing it will change everything, Mia can’t help but be a hero and she, Laurel and Dinah suit up once again to save the city.

The Canaries-driven spinoff will star Katherine McNamara as Mia Queen, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake.

McNamara first appeared in a recurring role as Mia Smoak in the seventh season of Arrow and was then promoted to series regular for the current eighth and final season. Katie Cassidy played Laurel Lance as the original Black Canary in the first four seasons of Arrow, as a special guest in season 5, and as Laurel’s doppelgänger Black Siren in season 6. Juliana Harkavy played Dinah Drake, the second iteration of Black Canary in the fifth season, then was promoted to series regular for seasons 6 and 7.

Arrow season 6 and 7 veteran Tara Miele directed the episode, which was written by Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama.

“Green Arrow and the Canaries” will be premiere on Tuesday, January 21.
