Original Scream star Neve Campbell is once again returning to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott for an all new installment of the hit horror franchise.

According to Variety, actress Neve Campbell has officially signed on to star in a brand new Scream movie coming down the pipeline from Spyglass and Paramount Pictures.

The newest installment of the hit horror franchise is being billed as a “relaunch” of the series, hails from Radio Silence Productions and features a script by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).

In a statement announcing her involvement, Campbell spoke of how much she’s looking forward to returning to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott— a character she first portrayed in the original movie, which came out in 1996.

“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for [original film director] Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

Meanwhile, Radio Silence released a statement in which they expressed excitement over the prospect of having Campbell on board for the project.

“It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve Campbell is truly a dream come true,” said the production company. “It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Neve Campbell isn’t the only one returning for the new Scream movie.

In addition, actors David Arquette and Courtney Cox are also set to return to reprise their roles as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, respectively.

Other cast members include Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega.

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the new Scream movie is set to premiere on January 14, 2022.
