The first teaser for Tick Tick Boom! is here and it finds Andrew Garfield racing against the clock.

Coming up next for Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Hamilton creator will be making his directorial debut by helming Tick, Tick… Boom! for Netflix.

Based on the autobiographical musical by Rent creator Jonathan Larson, Tick, Tick… Boom! follows Jon (Andrew Garfield)— a young theater composer who’s waiting tables at a New York City diner in the 90s while attempting to write what he hopes will become the next great American musical.

On the cusp of his 30th birthday, and days before he’s due to showcase his work in a make-or-break performance, Jon starts to feel the pressure from everywhere. There’s his girlfriend, Susan, who dreams of an artistic life beyond the confines of the city, and his friend Michael, whose traded his dreams for a life of financial security. In the world around him, the AIDS epidemic is rearing its ugly head and taking a toll on the artistic community he loves so much.

Though it all, Jon finds himself pondering a question that plagues most: what are we meant to do with the time we have?
