Update: Netflix has released two new images from The Crown, this time of Helena Bonham Carter’s Princess Margaret and Ben Lewis’ Antony Armstrong-Jones.

Season 3 of The Crown will be audience’s first experience with the show’s unique quirk of adding a whole new cast of characters every two years to play a new era of the Royal Family’s life. It’s a fascinating way to portray the Windsor family’s life, and we’ve all been curious if the ever-changing cast would work for audiences. Netflix is doing what it can to get fans ready for the shift by slowly releasing images of the new cast in their royal makeovers.

The first image to be released was, naturally, that of Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth. However, it looks like we’ve also got a peek at her rebellious younger sister, Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) and her sister’s husband, Lord Snowden (Ben Lewis).

Princess Margaret was quite the icon back in her day, and Helena Bonham Carter totally nails her look in this photo. With that flawless winged eyeliner and that perfectly styled hair paired with that classic Princess Margaret “take no shit” look, Carter seems to be nailing the Royal to a tee.

Not only was the Princess utterly fashionable, but she also pushed against the societal expectation of royalty. Perhaps that is why the caption the official Crown Twitter account tweeted out alongside this image was “hope,” because she pushed against Windsor family tradition and tried to bring about a new, more modern style of royalty.

Alongside of Carter’s Princess Margaret, we also have a peek at Ben Lewis as Lord Snowden. Lord Snowden, a photographer more commonly known as Antony Armstrong-Jones, was a bit of a volatile choice to become Princess Margaret’s husband. Nevertheless, the two married and had a fairly tumultuous relationship, which is likely why the image, which shows him with his camera, was shared to The Crown’s Twitter with the caption “hurt.”

As we’ve seen throughout season 2, Antony was very open sexually and had several partners–and last season teased that those partnerships secretly continued into their marriage. That paired with a couple made of two very strong-willed individuals makes for a very tough relationship for anyone, but adding the mounting pressure of being a Royal can only make things more volatile. Those who know the real story behind Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden’s marriage know what lies ahead for the couple, but we won’t spoil it here for those who don’t.

Regardless, we are so excited at the peeks Netflix has given us into the new series so far. The three images we’ve seen thus far are absolutely flawless, and we cannot wait for the new season to hit Netflix at the end of 2018.

Original Story:

We finally have our first look at Olivia Coleman playing Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s hit drama series, The Crown!

After months of wondering about the new cast for season 3 of Netflix’s The Crown, we finally have our first, tiny glimpse into the latest season of the hit show. The streaming service released the very first image of our brand new Queen Elizabeth II, played by Olivia Coleman, on their Twitter.

The image doesn’t give away a lot, save for giving Crown fans our first peek at Coleman in Queen Elizabeth’s iconic hairstyle and pearls as she enjoys a nice cuppa. Still, she looks absolutely fabulous as the Queen, and we can’t wait to get a longer look at Coleman’s take on Queen Elizabeth as well as the rest of the new cast.

Netflix tweeted out the image along with the caption, “patience.” It’s not clear if that caption is referring to something happening in the picture or (more likely) telling the fans to have patience as we wait for more news, images, and trailers to break from season 3. And, since The Crown isn’t likely to release episodes from the new season until late 2018, we’re definitely going to need some patience!

The Crown skyrocketed into popularity after the first season hit Netflix in November of 2016, and only became more popular into the show’s second season. As the show’s first seasons focused on the years before Queen Elizabeth was made queen and the early years of her reign, an entirely different group of actors played the well-known figures from the Royal Family in seasons 1 and 2.

Claire Foy skyrocketed to superstardom as she expertly took on the role of Queen Elizabeth II for the first 2 seasons, helping the show earn BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Emmy nominations. And while we’re definitely going to miss seeing Foy as the Queen, this new picture has got us so excited to see the amazing work Olivia Coleman is sure to do as her own interpretation of the titular monarch.
