Netflix launched the trailer for one of its first widely-released, Arabic-speaking, supernatural series, Jinn, and we’re already obsessed.

High school can feel pretty intense when you’re in the thick of it, but for the teens featured in Netflix’s new original series, Jinn, things are really going to get out of control. A routine field trip to Petra becomes deadly when two jinns — one good, one evil — enter the human realm.

Jinn is an Arabic-speaking Netflix original series that will have its five-episode series debut on June 13. The show was shot in Jordan and looks like it will be a must-watch for fans of supernatural thrillers.

Many potential western viewers might be familiar with jinn. They’ve been westernized as genies, but they are intelligent spirits lower than angels and demons, and this will be the first opportunity for many to learn about the lore behind jinn from an Arab perspective, not a western take on it.

With the popularity of supernatural shows featuring teens like Stranger Things and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, it’s not surprising to see Netflix add another to our watch lists. With a different setting and perspective, Jinn looks as though it will be a breath of fresh air in the space.

Not only that, but Jinn also seeks to feature Arab teens in an authentic way that many western viewers might not normally get to see when they turn on the news. Netflix has given the opportunity for a more diverse range of stories to be told, and we’re so excited to see this new exploration into the lives of Arab teens as they fight to survive against an ancient evil spirit.

The series was directed by Mir-Jean Bou Chaaya and stars Sultan Alkhail, Hana Chamoun, and Yasser Al Hadi. Be sure your queues are updated so you can catch Jinn when it premieres on June 13.
