Netflix’s adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events gets a creepy release date and new (official) trailer!

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events hits Netflix on Friday the 13, January 2017. Fitting no?

If Lemony Snicket had his way your calendar would be so full that there would be no time for watching Netflix. However, if you are inclined to see the misfortunes that befall the Baudelaire children clear your calendars now.

Lemony Snicket has nothing to hide in this first teaser. In fact, Patrick Warburton provides the first up close and personal look at the once mysterious author as he guides you through the abandoned props of the series.

Did you catch Neil Patrick Harris’ Count Olaf in the background? A few Easter eggs lie throughout including the name of the director, Monty Kensicle. That is an anagram of Lemony Snicket once used in the books.

The official synopsis for the Netflix series reads:

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance.

The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death. The eight-episode series is a Netflix original production, executive produced by Emmy Award winner Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler, and also stars Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket), Joan Cusack (Justice Strauss), Malina Weissman (Violet Baudelaire) and Louis Hynes (Klaus Baudelaire).

Unfortunately, the crew became so depressed during filming that they left the set. Will this series ever see the light of day? Not if Snicket gets his way.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events premieres on Netflix, Friday, January 13, 2017.
