Netflix’s new show The Society released a trailer for the show that depicts a group of teens who have been mysteriously separated from their parents.

The question of what would happen if adults were removed from society and children ran things isn’t anything new. The classic novel Lord of the Flies explores this dynamic when a group of young boys are stranded on a deserted island. Still, it is a question that fascinates us: can children or the younger generation do a better job of creating a society than adults?

That is a question that Netflix’s newest series sets out to explore. A group of teenagers find themselves in a town that resembles their sleepy New England home, but they find there is one key difference: the teens find themselves alone, with their parents nowhere to be found.

Ultimately, the teenagers try to create a life for themselves while also attempting to discover where their parents are. However, this new teen-run world seems to have quite a dark undertone to it. Check out the new trailer for The Society to see for yourself.

The Society takes a kind of unique bent on the ideas explored in Lord of the Flies. Though the series isn’t based on the novel, it does explore the question of what would happen if adults were out of the picture. And from what we see in this trailer, what might have started out as an idyllic way to survive in this world after being separated from their families by an unknown force, the desire for power soon turns this new community hostile.

In addition to a fascinating premise, the series also has some truly great actors on the roster. The series stars Legion actress Rachel Keller, Kathryn Newton from Supernatural and Detective Pikachu, and Switched at Birth’s Sean Berdy.

The Society premieres on Netflix on May 10 with 10 1-hour episodes. Be sure you set up your queues!
