Andy Serkis’ darker Jungle Book tale, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle has gone through a lot to make its way to audiences, but Netflix finally released a new trailer for the film.

While Andy Serkis’ live-action, darker Jungle Book retelling, Mowgli, was initially set for release through Warner Bros., the film continued to encounter roadblocks and delays that pushed the film back. One of those huge roadblocks was the massive success of Disney’s live-action adaptation of the beloved cartoon version. Despite releasing a trailer through Warner, the film was delayed and ultimately sold to Netflix.

Thankfully, it seems that the movie has finally gotten back on track, and is gearing up for a late 2018 release. Netflix released a new trailer for the film, now called Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, and it looks absolutely beautiful.

From what we can see in the trailer, the story feels like a fresh take on the story that we all loved in the classic Disney cartoon. Mowgli will tell the story of a young boy torn between two worlds that he loves but has never fully fit into. Braving the unique dangers that the world of man and the jungle, Mowgli will discover who he truly is and where he truly belongs.

Serkis has explained how joining forces with Netflix would allow Mowgli to tell a slightly darker story aimed at older children rather than the tamer, friendlier version we’ve seen from Disney, and this trailer certainly gives off vibes that this is a heavier story with more intensity. You might not leave this movie with “Bare Necessities” in your head, but with powerhouse performances from actors like Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, Matthew Rhys, Naomie Harris, and newcomer Rowan Chand, this will be a story of survival, hope, and family that you just can’t miss.

Even more exciting, just because Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle moved to Netflix, it doesn’t mean it won’t also have a limited theatrical run. While it will premiere on Netflix on December 7, the movie will have a limited theatrical release in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and London on November 29. But whether you see this one in theaters or in your own homes, be sure your holiday plans include a quick trip to the jungle for unforgettable adventures with Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.
