A reboot of the 1960s Lost in Space television series is coming exclusively to Netflix.

Netflix has been hitting it out of the park with its original series as of late, including Sense 8 and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, not to mention their Marvel properties like Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

Well, now they’ve got another show to tackle, and this time it’s an oldie-but-goodie.

According to a press release from the network, Netflix has “ordered a 10-episode first season of the one-hour sci-fi drama.” This will be a re-imagining of the original series from Irwin Allen. The series’ showrunner will be Zack Estrin (Prison Break) and the writing team will include Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter).

The current synopsis reads, “Taking its cues from the original series, the show centers around the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons. Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages.”

Whether you’re a fan of the original or are interested in seeing this updated version based solely on the information above, you’re in luck. “The current creative team’s re-imagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content.

Showrunner Zack Estrin will also serve as executive producer, along with writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns (The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim), and Applebox’s Emmy®-nominated director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent) and Marc Helwig. Marshall will also direct a couple of episodes for the series.

This updated classic will be hitting Netflix in 2018, so we’ve got a while to wait until we see it come to life.
