In the trailer for the new period thriller, Kingdom, a mysterious plague is burning through Joseon Dynasty-era Korea, turning people into monsters.

Netflix released a trailer for its new period thriller series, Kingdom, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Set 600 years ago in Korea, Kingdom tells the story of a mysterious plague, infecting thousands of people, turning them into zombie-like monsters. The trailer for the show’s first season is full of heart-stopping action and will have you so excited for the show’s 2019 premiere.

Kingdom is directed by Kim Seong-hun (The Tunnel) and was conceived by Kim Eun-hee, and it looks like it will not only be a series that will thrill audiences but will be utterly visually stunning to watch. The trailer teases a show with what looks to be expertly-crafted fight scenes, gorgeous sets and costumes, but also an engaging and creative storyline. In fact, this show has so much potential that Variety reports Netflix has already greenlit a second season for the show.

This show looks to be an exciting and fresh take on the well-worn zombie and outbreak stories we’ve seen in many movies and television shows before. Additionally, it’s really exciting to see the focus on medieval-era Korea, a time in a part of the world that many Western viewers haven’t really seen represented onscreen.

Kingdom is definitely a movie that zombie fans aren’t going to want to miss, and is yet another important step in telling a more broad and diverse range of stories on major outlets. The first season of Kingdom will premiere only on Netflix on January 25.
