Update (6/30/2021): On Wednesday (June 30), Netflix surprised horror movie fans by releasing the first five minutes of Part 1: 1994.

In the opening scene, we’re introduced to Heather (Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke)— a jaded teen working at a bookstore in the Shadyside Mall. What seems to start off as a normal closing shift however, quickly turns into something slightly more sinister.

The forthcoming horror flick is the first installment of the online streaming giant’s planned trilogy adaptation of author R.L. Stine’s best selling book series.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 premieres via Netflix this Friday, July 2.

R.L. Stine fans don’t have much longer to wait before they can check out Netflix’ adaptation of Fear Street Part 1: 1994.

The forthcoming horror movie is the first in a planned trilogy of films based off of Stine’s best selling horror series of the same name.

Set in 1994, the first installment of the trilogy adaptation centers on a group of teens from Shadyside who accidentally encounter the ancient evil responsible for a series of brutal murders that have plagued their town for over 300 years.

The series of three horror flicks are scheduled to be released across three consecutive weeks this coming July on Netflix, with Part 1 kicking things off on July 2.

“We filmed all three Fear Street movies over one crazy, bloody summer. It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way – back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between,” said director Leigh Janiak. “I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of Fear Street in 1994, 1978 and 1666!”

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 premieres via Netflix on July 2, with Part 2: 1978 and Part 3: 1666 releasing on July 9 and July 16, respectively.
