Netflix is calling it quits on Marvel’s Daredevil.

The online streaming giant has officially pulled the plug on Daredevil after just three seasons.

In a statement to Deadline, Netflix thanked the cast and crew for three incredible seasons, but didn’t offer up a specific reason as to why they chose to cancel the series.

“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” said the statement. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”

Daredevil is the latest Marvel entity to get the axe on Netflix. Just a few months ago, the online streaming giant announced they were choosing not to move forward with more seasons of both Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

The move has caused many to speculate that the cancellations are a direct result of Disney ending their partnership with Netflix in an effort to move all of their entities over to their new streaming platform, Disney +.

Disney+ has yet to launch, but the company has already announced plans to bring Marvel entities over to their upcoming streaming platform. Of particular interest to fans is a Marvel limited series in the works focused on Loki, which would find Tom Hiddleston returning to reprise his big screen role as the god of mischief.

Other marvel characters who could be making their way over to Disney+ include Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, and Falcon.

Though Netflix’s statement hints that perhaps Daredevil could find new life elsewhere, it looks as though we’ll have to wait and see if Disney and Marvel have any plans in store to resurrect the series once Disney+ is up and running.
