C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia is heading to Netflix, and in a major way!

Netflix has announced that several projects are in the works based on the seven-part series. And not just movies!

According to a press release, “under the terms of a multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide.”

“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

Said C.S. Lewis’ stepson in a statement, “It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world. Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal.”

We don’t know what this means for The Silver Chair movie that is currently in development. It’s not crazy to assume it won’t be happening now — at least not in its current form.

Notably, this is the first time a single company will hold the rights to all seven books. That’s certainly good news for those of us who want to see the entire Chronicles of Narnia get adapted to completion, after years of stops and starts.

The first Chronicles of Narnia film to hit the big screen was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005. Prince Caspian arrived in 2008, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader debuted in 2010. All of these, presumably, are about to be remade by Netflix.
