‘Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch’
If you’re looking for an updated version of a Christmas classic – look no further than Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch which was released in 2018. It’s not far from the original version of the The Grinch, but in this one Cindy Lou Who is being raised by a single mother who is overworked.
The little girl wants to give her a special Christmas which brings her to her mission to find Santa Claus for help. Meanwhile, The Grinch is looking to put a stop to all the festivities like usual. It’s a fun and lighthearted version of the classic that is made for modern day audiences!
Or if you prefer the 2000 live version of How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey, Netflix has that film too!
‘Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square’
There’s more than one reason to celebrate Dolly Parton this year. Not only did she help fund a vaccine for COVID-19, but she’s also released a new Christmas special on Netflix — Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square! Dolly plays an angel that’s come to try and save the holidays from a woman who tries to sell her hometown’s land which will leave them all homeless on Christmas eve!
Christine Baranski plays the cold hearted woman who is basically like a modern day Scrooge but the movie comes in musical form. She has to go back through old memories to learn to love her town again. The movie also features 14 original songs by Dolly Parton.
‘A Bad Moms Christmas’
If you were a fan of the original Bad Moms movie, you’ll love the Christmas movie A Bad Moms Christmas. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn all return to show just how stressed out moms handle the holidays when their own mothers show up. Suddenly Christmas is less about family joy and more about teaching their mom’s a lesson.
This is a great choice for adults with kids, but maybe once the kiddies are off to bed!
‘A Christmas Prince’
This year, Netflix made their own cheesy Hallmark-like holiday movies. If you are looking for a little Christmas romance, A Christmas Prince and Christmas Inheritance are just what you need. They pull from traditional Christmas movie tropes. The female leads in both movies go undercover somewhere foreign to them where they meet a nice, but misunderstood man. Along the way, they learn a bit about themselves and find the true Christmas spirit.
If you only have time for one, A Christmas Prince benefits from the strength and talent of Rose McIver. She carries the role of journalist and Christmas heroine well.
‘A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding’
Of course, we have to mention A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding — which is the sequel to A Christmas Prince. It takes place one year after the original movie as the couple prepare for their royal wedding. It has much of the same vibe as the first movie so if you enjoyed that one, continue on to the sequel!
‘A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby’
Sorry not sorry – we’re also going to recommend A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby on this list of Christmas movies on Netflix. Did they really need a third movie for this series – no. Are we happy they did it anyways – yes.
‘Christmas Inheritance’
Christmas Inheritance is a lot like A Christmas Prince. They’re both a little predicable, they’re predicable in a way that is cozy and familiar. They have a few laughs, some feel-good romance, and plenty of cookies.
Christmas Inheritance is a bit goofier, than A Christmas Prince but it’s just as enjoyable. They both — spoiler alert! — end with satisfying kisses, so they definitely deliver on the romance front, too.
‘Home for the Holidays’
Spending your Christmas with little ones? Netflix has a few options for you to enjoy with them. Home for the Holidays and A StoryBots Christmas are both fun options to watch with kids.
Home for the Holidays is a Christmas special starring the characters of DreamWorks’ 2015 movie Home. Tip teaches Oh and all the Boovs about the holidays. It’s charming and has a good message — that Christmas is really about the feelings, not the things. It gets a little help with songs from Kelly Clarkson and Ben Schwartz, which are great.
‘A StoryBots Christmas’
A StoryBots Christmas skews a bit younger. The StoryBots, who answer children’s questions and try to guide them through tricky situations, find out that Santa is missing. It turns out Santa doesn’t want to do his job anymore and the StoryBots must help save Christmas. It doesn’t have the charming songs of Home for the Holidays, but it still has some family-friendly Christmas cheer.
‘El Camino Christmas’
We can’t all embrace the Christmas spirit all the time. Sometimes the tree, the carols, and the trimmings can be a bit much. Luckily, Netflix has you covered on this front, too. The Christmas movie on Netflix, El Camino Christmas, is a little more along the lines of Die Hard than A Christmas Story. The movie follows a man named Eric Roth who takes five hostages into a liquor store on Christmas Eve. It gets a little holiday joy at the end, but for the most part it is a movie about suspense rather than a movie about joy.

‘BoJack Horseman Christmas Special’
Many of Netflix’s original series have fun Christmas episodes. There are a few from my favorite comedies that are sure to make you laugh. Any one of them would be a great break from family Christmas drama.
The BoJack Horseman Christmas Special has a great balance between joyful and grumpy. Like regular episodes of BoJack Horseman, the Christmas episode doesn’t take itself too seriously. It recognizes human (and horse) faults and delivers an off-kilter story that will make you smile.
‘Ricardo O’Farrill: Abrazo Navideno’
If you’re looking for something a big lighter, Ricardo O’Farril’s stand-up special brings all the Grinch-y laughs. Ricardo O’Farrill: Abrazo Navideno starts with a scene many will find familiar: a family fighting over Christmas dinner. He quickly leaves the dinner table in favor of a stage, where he complains about all the worst parts of Christmas. It’s funny, relatable, and best of all brings some anti-Christmas smiles.
‘A Very Murray Christmas’
Bill Murray’s Christmas special, A Very Murray Christmas, brings a Murray twist to Christmas specials. There are plenty of celebrity guests, including Amy Poehler, Miley Cyrus, and Chris Rock. It has an impressive number of songs, as well, fitting 17 of them into the special’s one hour. The special also gets a story line, with Bill Murray trying to put on this Christmas special for an audience that can’t see him because of a blackout across the entire east coast.
The characters are endearing, the music is fun, and the story gives just enough conflict for Christmas spirit to solve. Bill Murray leaves you with all the Christmas feels. It’s a great way to bring a little more Christmas cheer into your holiday weekend — or anytime you might need it.
‘The Great British Baking Show: Holidays’
If you love cooking shows, or even just love The Great British Baking Show — you’ll definitely want to check out The Great British Baking Show: Holidays during the holiday season. The third season premiered in 2020 and features the cast of Derry Girls with holiday themed challenges. It’s good for when you want to watch something in the Christmas spirit but aren’t quite in the mood for a movie or comedy special. Just be ready for the sudden urge for something sweet while you’re watching the bakers work their magic!
