Santa is getting a bit of a hip makeover in the newly-released trailer for Netflix’s holiday movie, The Christmas Chronicles.

Christmas might still be a bit away, but that hasn’t stopped Netflix from building hype for its new holiday flick, The Christmas Chronicles. Starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus himself, this new family-friendly movie looks like it will be packed full of adventure while also offering a cooler and more hip take on Father Christmas than we’ve ever seen before.

Unlike previous Santas, Russell’s Santa in The Christmas Chronicles is more like a cool uncle than an elderly toy-giver with a deep laugh and belly like a bowl full of jelly. This Santa is a bit of a daredevil, he’s snarky, and isn’t afraid to do whatever he has to in order to save Christmas.

When brother and sister Kate and Teddy Pierce set out to catch Santa on camera, they accidentally cause the famous sleigh to crash after sneaking onboard to get some truly amazing footage of the one-night deliveries. So Kate and Teddy must work together with Santa and his Elves to find a way to deliver presents to children everywhere and save Christmas.

The story of Santa’s deliveries getting interrupted by some unforeseen obstacle isn’t necessarily a new holiday movie plot point, but Russell’s take on jolly old Saint Nicholas certainly is. However, director Clay Katis is certain that this new, hip Santa will become a favorite for audiences for years to come.

And ultimately, The Christmas Chronicles is in good hands. The movie is written by Matt Lieberman and comes from producer Chris Columbus who brought us favorites like Home Alone and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Judging by the trailer, this will be a fun flick for the whole family this holiday season.

The Christmas Chronicles premieres on Netflix on November 22.
