Netflix’s Altered Carbon won’t be returning for a third season.

Another sci-fi series at Netflix is biting the dust.

According to Deadline, Netflix has decided to cancel its sci-fi series Altered Carbon after just two seasons.

Based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 novel of the same name, the series takes place in a world where consciousness can be transferred over to different bodies. The show focuses on a former soldier named Takeshi Kovacs who now works as an investigator, and follows along as Takeshi attempts to solve a murder.

The series, which was created by Laeta Kalogridis, first debuted via the streaming platform in 2018. Its most recent season debuted on Netflix earlier this year on February 27.

In addition to the 18 episodes that spanned over the course of the show’s two seasons, Altered Carbon also spawned an anime film titled Resleeved, which debuted on March 19.

Currently, it doesn’t seem as though Netflix has given a reason with regards to why they have decided to pull the plug on the sci-fi series.

Specifically, we learned on that the streaming giant had chosen to cancel the the teen sci-fi dramas, The Society and I Am Not Okay With This.

The cancellation of The Society came as an especially big shock to fans— especially given that Netflix had announced their decision to renew the series just last year.

Even so, the streaming giant cited coronavirus complications in regards to why they chose to cancel both series. There’s no telling whether the current pandemic played any sort of a role in Altered Carbon’s cancellation as well.
