Gilmore Girls‘ all at once release is happening thanks to the passionate fans of small towns with inns and Ivy League grads! Or so says Netflix.

Today in fandom-shaming, Netflix said to TV Line at the TCAs this past week that they are not staggering the release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life because “fans would have killed us.” Show of hands, who wanted this? Anyone? Kirk? Babette? Miss Patty?

Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted the episodes released separately so that fans had the opportunity to digest them, breathe, maybe go outside for a while, and see their families on Thanksgiving if you live in the States. The creator even pointed to Sherlock‘s release, citing it as a major motivator for how she envisioned Gilmore‘s return.

“I’m massively into Sherlock and what I love about Sherlock is the format is longer than an hour. They’re their own little mini-movies. It felt like a format that would work well for us on a storytelling level and as writers we would enjoy delving into,” said Sherman-Palladino to EW.

Viewers could enjoy them with or without all 153 episodes in their back pocket. What is baffling the most about Netflix’s statement is that they are putting the blame on fans of the series. Since when does Netflix take viewers into consideration over creators’ wishes?

And if my rioting is really taken into deep consideration, why are you not streaming ER in its entirety yet? Because I can get madder if you’d like, Netflix.

Regardless of whether or not Netflix thinks that the fans cannot control themselves, the schedule is set in stone. For those who will skip ahead to get those final four words Sherman-Palladino envisioned all those years ago, take a breather, hold your tongue, and let the world view the chapters as they were intended.

“It’s such a journey and it’s such a build to the last four words… However, you don’t always get what you want. The good outweighs the bad in the sense that this is a wonderful place to create things and do things in a different way,” says Sherman-Palladino about the final chapters in Stars Hollow.
