Don’t know what Black Mirror is? You DEFINITELY need to watch this teaser for Netflix’s brand new episodes.

Black Mirror is an anthology series by Charlie Brooker exploring humanity’s addiction to technology. Each episode explores a different version of our immediate future, in which our lives have — in one way or another — been taken over by technology.

Only seven episodes of the series exist to date, and Netflix has ordered a whooping 12 episodes, to be divided into two seasons. The first six episodes land on Netflix on Friday, October 21, and we’ve finally got the first trailer (via EW):

The first episode, “Nosedive,” chronicles Bryce Dallas Howard’s journey through a world in which everyone is ranked on social media. It was written by Parks and Recreation‘s Michael Schur and Rashida Jones, and directed by Joe Wright. Very presciently, it tackles social anxiety in the age of social media, with Howard’s character developing an obsession with being liked.

Another episode heavily featured in the trailer is titled “San Junipero,” and comes from the director of season 2’s fan-favorite “Be Right Back.” It stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis, and actually takes place in the past — 1987, to be exact.

Then there’s “Playtest,” “Shut Up and Dance,” “Men Against Fire,” and “Hated in the Nation.” All six episodes drop at once, and then we’ve got (at least) another six to look forward to.

The future’s looking just a little bit brighter… despite the literal devolution of society on Black Mirror that, in some cases, way too closely reflect what’s happening in the real world.
