Bad news: The third and final season of A Series of Unfortunate Events will be released as soon as we roll into 2019, and the final trailer is out now.

Netflix will aid your New Year’s Day hangover with the final season of the book-to-TV adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s beloved series. ASOUE season 3 starring Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf officially premieres all episodes on January 1, 2019.

On Monday, December 10, Netflix unveiled the final trailer for the third season. It begins with a recap of all the terrible things Count Olaf has been up to before unloading lots of fantastic new footage from the action-packed final episodes, including the villain vowing to end VFD. It also features one heck of a surprise at the end: A direct convo between the kids and Lemony Snicket himself.

A new poster was also released today:

The decision to release new episodes of a beloved series on New Year’s Day is a very smart one. You have to think that most people are spending New Year’s Day cozied up in front of the television.

Though it may’ve been tempting, Netflix pledged to not take their Series of Unfortunate Events TV series beyond the stories penned by Snicket. Thus, the series is ending with the third season covering the remaining four books.
