Neil Patrick Harris will host a variety show series based on ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway for NBC, the star confirmed today.

Vulture reports that NBC is nearing a deal with Harris for a 10-episode order, which will be shot in New York, where the actor currently lives.

“As I watched the show, I couldn’t stop smiling. Now that I’ve seen many seasons, my face hurts. It’s a game changer,” said Harris in a statement to Vulture about the project. “Nothing like this has been done before, and it’s unique structure fits right into my random skill set. I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and have some fun!”

UPDATE: NBC has sent out a press release confirming the variety show. They say Harris’ version “will feature comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini game shows, hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars.” A premiere date and name are not set at this time.

“All of us here at NBC have been dying to work with Neil, as we’ve watched him brilliantly host the Tonys and Emmys,” said Paul Telegdy, President of Alternative and Late Night Programming at NBC. “This series will suit his extraordinary talents perfectly. He is a versatile and thrilling talent for us to welcome into the NBC family.”

In a followup tweet, Vulture’s Joe Adalian confirmed that the show will not be airing on Saturday nights. In addition, the show will not be titled Saturday Night Takeaway.

So if the show won’t be named Saturday Night Takeaway, and NBC is reportedly paying ITV $2.5 million for the rights, we wonder what the similarities will be.

Time will tell. For now, we’re excited that a Neil Patrick Harris variety show is on its way to NBC.

These past few months have been great for Harris. He released a book, got married, and announced he’s hosting the 2015 Oscars.
