Watch Neil Patrick Harris present himself as the host of the 87th Academy Awards ceremony.

2014 is almost over, and as we head into 2015, we’ve got so many exciting things to look forward to. One is the Academy Awards ceremony on February 22, which is to be hosted by showbiz vet Neil Patrick Harris.

A new Christmas-themed promo for the event recently aired on ABC:

In the Oscars promo, Harris presents himself as the host, offers viewers a merry Christmas – and proposes the greatest gift of all: instead of presents, just tell your loved ones to watch the ceremony!

Damn. This could have saved us a lot of money and shopping time, Neil.

This is Neil Patrick Harris’ first time hosting the Oscars, although he has plenty of experience hosting the Emmy and Tony Awards.

Here’s one particularly memorable opening number:

We hope Neil Patrick Harris will treat us to a song and dance at the Oscars, too!

Last year, the Oscars were memorably hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who raised the stakes with internet-breaking selfies and great (much too brief) sketches throughout the night.

The 87th Academy Awards nominees will be announced on January 15, 2015. A Most Violent Year, The Imitation Game, Foxcatcher, Boyhood and The Theory of Everything are expected to be among the most celebrated films of the year, if the buzz is to be believed.

Are you looking forward to seeing Neil Patrick Harris host the 2015 Oscar ceremony?
