An awesome new promo spot for Ridley Scott’s The Martian enlists Neil deGrasse Tyson to explain the science of it all.

In October, Andy Weir’s incredible book The Martian is premiering on the big screen, with an incredible cast led by Matt Damon as main character Mark Watney.

Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian tells the story of an astronaut who is stranded on Mars, after his crew believes him dead. He survives, through incredible Home Alone-style methods, and manages to make contact with NASA, which attempts a massive rescue operation.

Last week we had a brand new trailer showing Mark’s crew fighting to bring him home. And now, real-life astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has (indirectly) been added to the already incredible cast list, appearing in this in-universe ad for the movie:

The amazing video is set up like any of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s spacesplaining spots might have been, except deGrasse Tyson talks about the good old days of 2029, when humans first set foot on Mars.

We see the members of The Martian‘s crew projected behind him, as he introduces the new mission. We’re introduced to Hermes, which will be very significant later on in the story, and we’re warned of the dangers that come with the ambitious Mars mission.

Neil deGrasse Tyson even goes so far as to suggest that humans might eventually settle on Mars… if all goes well with the mission of course.

The Martian hits theaters on October 2. The incredible cast also includes Kate Mara, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Sebastian Stan, Donald Glover, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Sean Bean, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
