Summit Entertainment is moving steadily forward with their book-to-film adaptation of Divergent, the first young adult book in the trilogy by Veronica Roth. They are narrowing in a director to helm the project.

Neil Burger (Limitless) is in “early talks” with the studio and he currently ranks high on their list of contenders, reports Variety. The film is scheduled to start filming in March with a planned release of early 2014.

As most of our readers know, the book is a great read and has seen huge success in the publishing world. To date, 1.3 million copies have been sold and that number will naturally continue to climb as word about the film project spreads.

Summit also owns the rights to the sequel Insurgent. The third and final book in the trilogy does not yet have a release date.

The studio purchased the rights to the books before the first book Divergent had even been released.

We had learned in June that filming for Divergent was set to begin later this year, but that start time has been pushed back. Our Books Editor calls Divergent one of the most anticipated upcoming book-to-film adaptations.
