Seth Rogen can breathe a sigh of relief, as people may finally stop talking about The Interview and start talking about the sequel for his hit film Neighbors.

Universal is currently moving forward with a sequel to Neighbors, which Rogen starred in alongside actress Rose Byrne and Zac Efron. The film was a success critically and financially, pulling in $268 million worldwide, on an $18 million dollar budget.

Despite Rogen’s recent troubles with The Interview, the writer/director/actor knows how to create low-budget comedies that rake in the cash. He’s said he likes to make movies that he and his friends would want to see, and it seems like he knows his audience well.

Neighbors 2’s release date has been set for May 13, 2016. All three of the main stars will be back, with the film’s director, Nicholas Stoller, returning to direct the sequel as well. While Rogen and his writing partner, Evan Goldberg, won’t be writing the sequel’s script, they will be producing the film via their Point Grey Pictures production company.

Neighbors 2 being greenlit is actually a fairly big deal. It’s the first deal since the insanity that was Rogen’s last film, The Interview, which resulted in massive amounts of leaked information from Sony and ended up with one of Sony’s longtime executives stepping down.

Sony released The Interview through online and on-demand outlets, where it made $31 million as of early January. It’s reportedly almost broken even with its $44M budget, but its promotion budget may keep it from making the studio any money. The damage to Sony as a company was massive, but it looks like Rogen may have come out of all of this alright.

Neighbors was an incredibly fun film, and we’re glad to see a sequel being made with Efron and Rose Byrne returning. Filming will start this summer, and the film will hit theaters May 13, 2016.
