With the popularity of vampires in today’s culture, why not return to the original vampire? At least that’s what NBC thinks! NBC has ordered 10 episodes of a new series entitled Dracula!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who starred in The Tudors, will play the role of Dracula. Deadline reports that the show will be set in the 1890s and has been described as Dangerous Liasons meets The Tudors.

Universal TV Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria revealed the show’s synopsis:

Dracula (Meyers) arrives in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who maintains that he wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. In reality, he hopes to wreak revenge on the people who ruined his life centuries earlier but falls hopelessly in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. “It is a timeless tale with relevant, surprising twists and turns with the exquisite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the marquee role,” [Universal TV EVP Bela] Bajaria said.
