Matt Ryan’s no stranger to voice acting, but this time he’s lending it to something a little more tongue-in-cheek for claymation webseries John Con Noir.

John Constantine, and his long-suffering companion Chas, found themselves getting an animated makeover ahead of “The Saint of Last Resorts Pt. 2” on Friday. Released via the DC Entertainment YouTube channel, John Con Noir does exactly what it says on the tin. It transports Constantine into the wonderful world of noir, and is just the right amount of ridiculous fun and the utterly bizarre.

Check out the first episode in the webseries below:

In the episode, claymation John heads to L.A. to follow up on the disappearance of Constantine show creators Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer — thanks to the pesky Rising Darkness.

As John stumbles upon Rosacarnis — the daughter of the demon Nergal — in an alleyway, the episode takes a decidedly meta turn regarding the fate of its live-action counterpart. Some particularly great lines had us chuckling out loud — though, unlike John, we don’t have “better things to do on a Friday night.”

Whilst Constantine laments that without “those wankers” writing his show he’ll cease to exist, Rosacarnis offers him a dry rebuttal. “Come on, John. There’s always Hellblazer.

There’s no information regarding when the second episode of John Con Noir will make its way online, but we imagine it’s likely to be ahead of next Friday’s episode, “Quid Pro Quo.”

Constantine airs at its all-new time of 8 p.m. EST on NBC. “Quid Pro Quo” will hit our screens January 23.
