Get ready to experience St. Elmo’s Fire in a whole new way.

According to Deadline, the hit 80s classic, St. Elmo’s Fire is officially getting adapted into a television series.

The adaptation news hails from NBC who has put the project into development, in addition to giving the series a script commitment.

Debuting in 1985, the original St. Elmo’s Fire was co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher, and starred Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham (collectively known in Hollywood as The Brat Pack).

In the cult drama, the group played friends and recent graduates of Georgetown University, trying to make their way in the world and navigate through life after college.

The plan for the forthcoming series is to take the coming-of-age story and put a modern spin on it.

Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman will serve as writer on the new show which, like the film, will center on a tight-knit group of friends “struggling with career, commitment, and the responsibilities of adulthood.”

One thing that wasn’t made clear is whether the adapted series would incorporate the main characters we met in the film, or if it’ll end up focusing on a new group of friends altogether. With that in mind, we’ll be curious to hear about where Berman is planning to take the story for the small screen.

As the project is currently in early development, there’s no word yet on who might sign on to star in the adapted series.

There’s also no word on when we can expect the St. Elm’s Fire television series to make its way to air on NBC.
