Jennifer Lopez’s Bye Bye Birdie Live! will be flying on to television screens later than expected.

According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC revealed on Friday (March 2) that they have postponed their production of Bye Bye Birdie Live for a second time.

The television adaptation of the hit Broadway musical was meant to make its grand debut in the winter of 2017, but unfortunately NBC had to push it back due to Jennifer Lopez’s hectic work schedule.

The actress and singer was cast as Rosie Alvarez in the live television production of the play, but due to prior commitments, such as her starring role on Shades of Blue and her series of scheduled performances in Las Vegas, the network was forced to reschedule the holiday musical production.

Last May, we learned that Bye Bye Birdie Live! wouldn’t take place until sometime in 2018. Now, the network has been forced to push the production back yet again.

The new move will find the live production of the Broadway musical premiering on NBC sometime in 2019 at the earliest.

While Lopez’s jam-packed schedule is partially to blame for the move, she’s not the only one with a full plate.

According to Variety, NBC live musical executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are also currently tied up with working on Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, set to debut on Easter Sunday.

If Bye Bye Birdie Live! had kept its original rescheduled airdate of December 2018, that would have left Zadan and Meron a mere six months to make sure the show was ready to go for a live broadcast.

With that in mind, it’s definitely a smart move to push the production back, but it’s also understandably disappointing for those who’ve come to look forward to NBC’s live musical productions over the past few years.
