It looks like the National Treasure series is officially a go over at Disney+!

Fans of Disney’s hit National Treasure franchise have long since been clamoring for more, and now it looks as though they’re finally going to get it!

Disney+ has ordered 10 episodes of an all new National Treasure series, which hails from a handful of the film franchise’s creative team.

Specifically, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is back and teaming up with original movie writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberly to work on the show.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like the series will find Nicolas Cage back in action as Ben Gates. Instead, the plan is for the Disney+ series to serve as a reimagined take on the beloved action franchise.

So what can fans expect from the National Treasure series? According to Deadline, the plan is for the Disney+ series to explore “the timely issues of identity, community, historical authorship, and patriotism.”

All of this will be told through the story of the series’ main character Jess Morales— a 20-something DREAMER. Together with a group of friends, Jess will set off on an adventure to uncover her family’s history, all while recovering a treasure long lost.

Rumors of a series first hit the internet just last year when Bruckheimer revealed in an interview with Colider that a Disney+ show was in the works.

In his comments, Bruckheimer noted that the Disney+ series won’t have any effect on plans for a third movie, which are currently still underway.

“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen,” Bruckheimer told Collider back in May of 2020. “The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast…The film version is being written right now. The television version is in process. We have a pilot script done and an outline of the future episodes.”

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect to see the National Treasure series debut via Disney+
