National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise has taken us on countless adventures, but it’s about to embark on its most ambitious adventure yet: Broadway.

Many of us grew up watching movies like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation. Those movies hold a special place in many of our hearts, but the franchise is about to welcome a whole new batch of fans into the Vacation family in a surprising move to Broadway.

As Deadline reports, producers Ken Davenport and Kurt Deutsch are working on developing the franchise for a Broadway musical. The two have optioned the theatre rights from Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, and are working on developing the franchise for the stage.

According to reports, the musical will be called Broadway Vacation, and will center around an original story that chronicles the Griswolds’ very first trip to the Big Apple. We can’t imagine what sort of hijinks the Griswolds will get themselves into in New York City, and we can’t wait to find out!

The time period for the musical hasn’t been released, so we don’t know if the story will be set in the late 80s/early 90s era of Christmas Vacation and Vegas Vacation, following the exploits of Clark Griswold and his family or if they’ll follow Rusty Griswold and his family like the 2015 film Vacation.

Of course, since so many of us grew up watching Clark Griswold and his family’s adventures, it’s safe to assume that is the family they’ll follow, though they might still set the story in a more modern setting.

Because the musical is still very much in development, we don’t know who will be playing our beloved Griswolds or when the show is set to premiere. However, we’re so excited to see how their misadventures translate onto stage and song!
