Castle star Nathan Fillion has been a fan-favorite actor to join the MCU for years, and now he’s landed a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy 2!

Captain Hammer would be so proud.

Nathan Fillion, genre superstar, has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 — and his role is too perfect!

The former Firefly and Dr. Horrible actor will appear as Simon Williams, aka. Wonder Man, in the 2017 sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn.

We’ve long known that Nathan Fillion would be making a cameo in Vol. 2, but now we finally know his character’s identity. Via ComicBook.com, we now know that Fillion will be playing Simon Williams, aka. Wonder Man.

The news surfaced via a set video showing mock-up movie posters as part of a “Simon Williams movie festival.” As ComicBook.com deduces, this likely means that a segment of Guardians 2 takes place on Earth — though whether it’s in a flashback or set in current time, we can only speculate.

Although this is just a cameo, we can’t help but hope Fillion’s casting means bigger things for him in future Marvel movies.

After all, Wonder Man is an Avenger, after having previously been a member of the Masters of Evil. He later retires from heroics to become an actor (hence the Simon Williams film festival), but rejoins the good fight as a member of the Avengers Unity Division. So it wouldn’t be totally implausible for the character to show up in Avengers: Infinity War.

It’s also worth noting that this isn’t Nathan Fillion’s first MCU stint. He also had an easily-missable cameo in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, as the big blue inmate who intimidates Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) in the prison sequence.
