A new Inhuman is speeding into town, as Natalia Cordova-Buckley joins the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3.

Cordova-Buckley will play Elena Rodriguez, an Inhuman with the power of tremendous speed. The catch (because with Inhumanity, there always seems to be a catch) is that Elena always has to return to the location where she started speeding.

…which is why they call her “Slingshot.”

“We announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the Secret Warriors story will be coming to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and we’re pleased to say that will continue to play out in the second half of our season,” Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, said of Cordova-Buckley’s addition to the cast. “Natalia embodies both the toughness and the warmth necessary for the role of Elena as we bring another piece of the team to the screen for the first time.”

We also got our first look at Elena Rodriguez in a production still from an upcoming episode, and it appears that their description of her as “a tough, street-wise Colombian woman” is on the money. We certainly wouldn’t want to mess with her.

Slingshot will make her debut when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 returns from its winter hiatus on March 3. The casting announcement confirms that Elena will become a new member of Daisy’s Secret Warriors — the project that has been percolating unfulfilled for the first part of the season.

Natalia Cordova-Buckley is best known for her role in McFarland, USA. She has also had multiple roles in Spanish-language TV series and films.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3, episode 9, “Closure,” airs Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
