Nashville‘s Nick Jandl dropped by and gave us his take on his love triangle on the show and what it’s been like working on the set.

If you have been watching Nashville this season, you know there is a new man in town, but this one isn’t here for his musical skills! Nick Jandl plays Scarlett’s love interest and Deacon’s medical adviser, Dr. Caleb Rand, and we were extra lucky to get a couple minutes to talk to him about his experience on the show. Read the first of a two-part interview ahead of this week’s all-new episode!

So, the last episode you were in was the episode where you flew out to Chicago. And I’m not gonna lie, you’re kinda ruining Gunnar and Scarlett, and I’m not okay with it. I like you, but I like Gunnar Scarlett. Make me want to pick you.

Geez, that’s a hell of a way to start an interview. I’m interviewing for my life right now. You know what, I think like any new boyfriend, coming on the scene and knowing that there is someone there who has a lot of history, you will never be able to compete with that. I don’t think he ever expects to have what they have, but he’s a different thing for her and that’s why I think it’s gone as well as it has. Hell, he’s a handsome cowboy dude.

Well you’re a handsome doctor, so that’s nothing to sneeze at.

I know, but it’s true. These fans last night were going crazy, and people feel very strongly. I think if they can keep the love triangle and the tension going, that’s gold.

We don’t have a love triangle right now besides yours, so I’ll take it for right now.

I’m happy to be the source of your drama fix. This has gone past way more than I expected; it’s just become this amazing ride. I hope it never stops.

Well you have stakes in two plot lines: the romance with Scarlett and Deacon’s cancer storyline, which again puts you at the mercy of the fans. You can date Scarlett, just don’t kill Deacon.

Oh, I feel the pressure. As we were filming episode 21 the other day, some of the background people stop me and tell me, “Just save Deacon, OK?”

I just know they are going to have him be in some surgery or procedure in the finale and something is going to happen and that’s where the finale will end. I’m prepared for that.

I don’t know, that would be a pretty cruel cliffhanger. I’m not his surgeon though, so it wouldn’t be my fault [laughs].

Good to know, I’ll pass that along so no one gets mad at you. Have you interacted with anyone else, not in that specific group of people?

I have. I’m a bit hesitant to say to who because I don’t want to give anything away, but some other people come back who haven’t been seen for a while and I interact with them. I can also say that I worked with Connie (Britton). I’m a huge fan. I guess you could say that whoever is in Scarlett’s world, I could end up interacting with them as well.

Watch Nashville this upcoming Wednesday and then check back here for a recap and the second part of our interview!
