Nashville season 3, episode 17, “This Just Ain’t a Good Day for Leavin,” solved problems but created more in its wake. Read on below for the full recap.

With so much that went on last night we are going to go down the character line and see what happened. Let’s begin!

Sadie and Luke: We pick up immediately following last week’s gun shot and Sadie is NOT handling it well. Luke is giving his statement as well when Sadie calls Rayna for help. Luke gets released just as Ray is walking into the station and the two have an awkward conversation. The detective on the case says they will let Sadie go but the investigation is going to be on going because the gun she had was unregistered.

Rayna takes her back to her house and convinces her to try and get some sleep. Plagued by nightmares and texts from Avery and Luke, she is about to break down again when she gets a phone call. She calls Rayna back and tells her that they aren’t going to be charging her but she is heading back to Virginia. She knew Ray would talk her out of it and isn’t sure when or if she’ll be back.

She goes to the studio and thanks Luke for giving a (falsified) statement saying it was self-defense. She hugs him and says goodbye. He asks if that’s a goodbye to the two of them or a I’m-leaving-town goodbye. She says both. How can this promising romance be done before it even started? Here’s hoping IMDb is wrong and Laura Benati is back this season to see where a romance could go with Luke.

Gunnar and Scarlett: Gunnar is pissed after discovering that Scarlett never came home last night and it doesn’t get better when she tries to comfort him when they hear the news about Sadie. Avery tries to talk to Gunnar but ends up in the middle when Scarlett asks him about his behavior. He eventually tries to apologize to her but it goes horribly wrong. As the two are fighting about who did what back when he proposed, Avery tells them that he is leaving to go become a daddy and to not destroy the band while he’s gone. The two end up sharing a fantastic song on stage but Scarlett later throws his words (from a season ago) back in his face, “I was just feeling the music.” Ouch.

Deacon and Teddy: Deacon is dealing with the fallout of telling the girls he is sick and Maddie is giving off major attitude. Hilariously Daphne is acting like an adult and giving him advice. Maddie ends up calling Teddy to come pick her up. Teddy faces a huge dilemma the whole episode: does he blackmail the money guy to get his hooker girlfriend off his back so she can leave town? This is a common problem, right?

When Teddy arrives at Deke’s, the two actually have a bonding moment and Teddy convinces Maddie that she needs to talk it out with Deacon because he could be gone soon. She implores him not to get sick or anything until he’s much older and we all hope that Teddy takes this to heart. Does he? No, as he ends up using his blackmail. Did anyone else think Natasha was a bit dramatic in her blackmailing Teddy to get her money? Girl, you’re just going to jail for prostitution, not getting the death penalty. This will surely end well. Oh and Maddie makes up with Deacon. Duh.

Juliette:Thank the Nashville gods, Juliette Barnes is back and better than ever. “I cannot believe she would choose to shoot someone on the day of my shower!” Poor Juju is extra hormonal and with every major celebrity, plus her husband and closest friend not showing up to her baby shower, she goes a bit crazy. When Rayna eventually shows up to apologize, the two get in a hilarious fight that starts with this retort. “I am relieved since now I know exactly where I stand. Somewhere below your precious little label and your stupid, perfect hair!” Ray thinks that’s a bit much and ends up yelling right back at Juliette, which is a laugh-out-loud moment in itself, and then her water breaks.

Rayna stays to help her deliver the baby until Avery arrives just in time. The two sing the most precious lullaby in the world, it’s not online yet or it would be below. The episode closes out with Juliette telling Avery she has the perfect name… which we will learn next week as the screen goes black.
