Holy cow you guys! So much happened on last night’s Nashville. I am going to take it by the least surprising development to the most surprising!

Teddy, feeling lonely, calls his escort lady friend over. He tries to subtly bring up their last rendezvous but she just wants to get down to business. After said “business,” Teddy gets a text from the girls about the party and ends up telling her he wants a real relationship so their “arrangement” is over. Let’s see if it sticks!

I’m not going to lie, the next two surprises I called once the episode started them on their path so I rank them as equally surprising but they still did the job.

Gunnar gets a surprise visit from Micah’s grandparents and of course they want custody of the kid. Gunnar does the right thing and goes to a lawyer. He sets up a hearing for the next day and says that a paternity test will be asked so just get that out of the way.

At dinner later, Gunnar is trying to be all polite so that it doesn’t affect Micah negatively but Grandma isn’t having any of that. She is all about bringing up Gunnar’s (relatively small compared to his brother) criminal past. He ends up kicking them out and gets a call that changes everything. The next day he shows up at Scarlett’s house (who is dealing with a whammy of shock that we will get to) and tells her that Micah isn’t his kid, he’s his brother’s Jason’s! Called it!

After the tour ends, Jeff heads into Will’s tour room and tells him that a rumor is swirling around about him being gay. If you actually look at the article he shows him the post says “Artists We Wish Were Gay” so it’s not really a rumor but it sure does do a lot of damage. At Jeff’s post tour party that night, Layla is flirting her little heart out with Jeff. Will sees this and totally flips the table on him.

He tells Jeff that he wants to take Layla on tour with him and he can’t do that if she thinks something is happening. End it, he says. Well, all the hope we had of Jeff actually being a decent human being goes out the window when he destroys a drunken Layla’s heart and then gives her a bottle of pills to calm her down. Who just has a full bottle of pills in his pocket????

Will gets confronted by a reporter and ends up having really sad sex with her that Layla witnesses. She of course takes the pills and by episode’s end Will finds her face down in the pool! I was actually starting to like Layla so here’s hoping she isn’t dead. Or maybe that’d be a good story. Jeff, however, reverts back to the slime he is and calls Teddy (instead of 911!) to tell him he needs a favor. Ewwww.

Sadie is recording with Avery this week and who shows up but her ex-husband. He seems to think her big hit is really similar to a song they wrote together while they were married. I was always wondering why she kept physically backing away from him all the time and now we know. After the rehearsal dinner, Sadie comes home to find him on her porch. She tells him to get off her property and he SLUGS her. Major black eye. I definitely gasped when that happened.

Now maybe the last three surprises aren’t all that surprising but they certainly packed the appropriate punches!

Rayna is clearly having cold feet about the wedding. Tandy shows up and keeps asking her if she is okay/happy and Rayna keeps saying everything is dandy! The teams want to add another six months onto the honeymoon tour, which is already a year and Rayna is not happy being away from the kids that long. No worries, Ray! The kids want to go to boarding school with Luke’s kids! She is not having that and it basically spirals from there.

After the party, where the girls sang a song co-written by Deke of course, she stays up all night. She heads to Luke’s the next morning and calls off the wedding. Not just because of Deacon she says, because of her girls and how this is new life is effecting them and because she needs to break her cycle of relationships. Luke does not take it well, at all. That’ll go well for that tour huh!

Juliette and Avery are getting lots of baby swag and it’s all kinds of cute. Avery is worried about how they will handle the living arrangements so Juliette offers him the guest room and his old key back. He takes it but later talking to his mom he just seems really upset about the whole thing.

Later, he shows back up at the house and tells JuJu that he can’t do this anymore. Her face falls and it’s all a misdirect because he wants her to marry him!!! They get married in a court house and everyone is so happy that the last surprise never happens!

Just kidding. So Deacon, not wanting to be surrounded by the media hoopla of the wedding, decides to stay in Memphis and Scarlett stays too to keep him company. Alas, despite an amazing karaoke song the wedding is all around. Deke tells Scarlett he isn’t feeling so hot and heads home. He takes some medicine and his eyes land on a magazine with Rayna and Luke on the cover. He throws it and it lands in the mini bar.

Hours later, Scarlett finds him unconscious on the floor. Everyone jumps to the conclusion that he was drinking but he swears he didn’t and his test results confirm that. They also confirm that our beloved Deacon has some kind of potentially terminal liver cancer. Shocker, he isn’t working on treating it right away and he isn’t telling anyone!

I swear to Nashville if they kill my Deacon off, I’m out of there like Zooey on a plane to California.

Check back over the next month for any upcoming Nashville news! Have a good holiday!
