Adam Busch, star of web series MyMusic, gives us the scoop on season 2, what it’s really like working with the Fine Brothers, and much more.

Adam Busch is no stranger to fandom frenzies. While currently staring in Men at Work, Busch is perhaps most well known for his entertaining (and horrifying) turn as Warren in Buffy the Vampire Slayer – and even more so, for his unforgettable exit.

Now he stars in hit YouTube web series MyMusic as Indie, the head of MyMusic, and the very worst kind of hipster.

MyMusic is a web series in the mockumentary style of The Office mixed with the humour of 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation.

The series was created by the Fine Brothers, the dynamic duo behind the viral React series.

This interview with Busch is part of a MyMusic season 2 feature here on Hypable.

We kicked off the series of profiles last week, when we spoke to co-creator Benny Fine. More cast interviews are coming, so stay tuned.

Tell us about your casting process – what made you want to be involved with ‘MyMusic’?

I was already a fan of the Fine Bros from the React Series. That show is my go to place if I need to understand a meme or want to explain to my parents what a meme even is.

You are a talented singer – could we ever expect Indie to show off his voice on the show?

I’m sure Indie will start a band at some point. He’s always threatening to. But you know what happens when the critics and the taste watchers start creating themselves? It would be a real risk. Plus, Indie would sing in frequencies that can only be heard by dogs and dolphins so I doubt humans would be able to appreciate it fully.

You co-directed a film with your ‘Buffy’ co-star Amber Benson – what else is in the pipeline with regards to directing?

We make a lot of music videos. Recently we’ve made them for Lucy Wainwright, Califone, Eric Kufs, David Garland & Sufjan Stevens, David Yow from The Jesus Lizard.

I also produced a record of nerdy love and protest songs for Cossbysweater. Allie Goertz is amazing.

‘MyMusic’ season 2 quick fire:

1. What musical stereotype are you in real life?

All of them and their opposite.

2. What was your favourite thing to film during season 2?

I’m not sure if it was in response to fans reactions and comments or if the Fines are simply leading everyone down their master path, but everything is so much more personal this season. Scene’s feelings for Indie, Hip-Hop’s fight to be himself, Idol’s quest to find herself, Metal’s need for control.

I make it sound like every one is in therapy, they’re not. The stakes are just raised and tendencies are coming out. I just love it. We had a scene with Grace where everyone was in tears. It was so sincere and heartfelt while also being absurd and hilarious. Only the Fine Bros can pull that off.

3. If your character didn’t work at MyMusic, what would they be doing?

Have you ever actually seen Indie working? You’ve seen him talk about work, but have you ever actually seen him do it? Think about it.

4. MyMusic is a strange work environment – what is the weirdest thing you have done as part of the show?

I still can’t eat bologna.

5. Which of the extra ‘MyMusic’ shows is your favourite?

I’m a Mosh Man.
