My Mad Fat Diary series 2, episode 2 just aired in the U.K., and we’re having some serious Rae/Finn feels. Check out our recap of the episode.

Under the Radar

Rae hasn’t been back to school since she set the alarm off and missed a whole week, going home instead each day. Except that day when she goes home, her mum is there. Uh-oh!

Rae and her mum go to see the dean, and Liam is in the office. He gets blamed for setting off the fire alarm, but he doesn’t tell the dean it was actually Rae. He walks out, and in her meeting, the dean thinks she thinks Rae isn’t ready for college and was thinking of deferring her, but Rae doesn’t want that. She wants to be treated the same as everyone else. Instead, she gets a warning, but will defer if she misbehaves again.

Afterwards, Rae meets with Archie, and he reveals he’s started smoking so he can stay under the radar, and he’s fitting in fairly well. He advises Rae to stay under the radar, when Chloe comes by and she admits she hates it there because she feels invisible and she wants to be IN the radar. Chloe can’t even get the popular kids to notice her, for once.

Rae is avoiding Finn, but her mum says that Rae can’t spend her life running away from stuff, so she goes to meet him at the pub. She says she doesn’t want to bring him into her problems, but he says it’s fine because Finn is a good man. They kiss and Rae remembers that as long as she has him, she’ll be okay. Finn mentions that his dad is going to be out to a conference and he’ll have the house to himself. He wants to have a sleepover, but he only wants to invite one person: Rae.

The Fittest Lad in College

On her second full day of college, Archie explains that there’s a kid in their class who has a knack for giving someone a nickname that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. He’s an evil genius, and Archie says they shouldn’t do anything extraordinary around him.

Rae sees Finn through a window, and he’s surrounded by girls. Rae overhears some girls who think Finn is the fittest lad in college, and they hate that he’s taken. They think he’d never go out with girls like them, so Rae asks Chloe how weird it is that she’s dating Finn. Chloe says that on a scale of 1-10, Rae is a 4 and Finn is an 11. She doesn’t know why Finn likes her, but maybe she’s his type.

They notice everyone is staring at the bulletin board, and it turns out someone posted a photo of Chloe in her underwear. They don’t know who has the photos, but they need to find them before they print the “other ones,” which would be…problematic. Rae decides to help her find the culprit.

Rae shows up at Finn’s, still nervous. They start snogging, but Rae interrupts to pour another drink. Several drinks later, Finn is plastered and Rae is sober as ever when he goes to the bathroom and she finds a photo of Finn and his ex. She compares it to a photo of them, and she starts to feel more conscious. Turns out that Finn fell asleep in bed, and she goes to cuddle next to him.

Naked People Everywhere

In a session with Kester, Rae doesn’t understand why Finn likes her. She’s embarrassed for him because he has to be seen with her, but Kester says she has three options. Stop caring about what people think, leave college, or leave Finn. Out of all the options, she agrees that option one is the best.

Rae goes to kiss Finn in front of the girls who are all over him, but then the mysterious man who gives everyone nicknames and his friend ask if she’s going out with anyone and she says no. She’d rather hide than be in the radar.

She goes into the school and someone is tossing hundreds of photos of Chloe from the top of the stairwell, and Rae asks if she knows who has them yet. She doesn’t, but people have been nice about it and the popular girls are talking to her. She thinks it’ll all go away eventually, but Rae says she needs to find the negatives or tell a teacher.

Rae decides that if she can’t see Finn in college, she has to see him out of it, but that means taking off her clothes. That’s one part she doesn’t feel comfortable with, so she keeps avoiding him. At college Finn finally runs into her, and she takes him into the out of order bathroom to talk.

He wants to know what’s going on, and she explains that he’s an 11, and she’s a 4. She finally lets him know how she feels, and wants to know why he likes her. He says just because, and he kisses her. They get ready to leave, but the handle falls off and Finn calls for help.

Rae freaks out that everyone is going to see them together, and that’s exactly what happens.

Option 3, Then

Back at home, Rae’s mum lets her know that she’s not going through the change – she’s pregnant! She’s five months pregnant, in fact, and Rae is not enthused. The next day at college she decides to face her fears, and everyone is talking about her and Finn in the handicapped toilet. The guy who gives everyone nicknames gives Rae the nickname Magic Fanny, and Archie laughs, but Rae sees him do so and runs away. She tries to cope, but pulls the fire alarm again.

Chloe visits Rae in her room, and Rae can’t handle it anymore, but Chloe isn’t sure if she means college or what. Rae says that they should go to the police about whoever is dropping the photos of her everywhere, and Chloe admits that it was her who put them out there. She just wanted to be popular.

Rae puts on Finn’s jacket, and it rips. It was the last straw. So she brings it to him at his house, and breaks up with him at his front door. The next day, Rae visits the hospital she used to go to and says she feels more comfortable there. Danny is there and they get to talking. Later, she runs into Liam outside, and he says she can do with a drink. She sits and joins him.
